BED AND MATTRESS SIZE GUIDE
Sleep is essential to everyone’s health and well-being, but how many of us realise that the space where we choose to sleep has not necessarily changed in size since we were babies in the cradle? The width of the average cot is approximately 75cm. A standard double bed, one of the most popular sizes in the UK, measures 135cm wide. If you share your bed that’s just 67.5cm each! The fact is, the more space you have to sleep in, the better your night’s rest will be.
Here’s a basic guide to mattress/bed sizes to help you make the most of your bedroom space. We recommend you should always work in metric for the most accurate measurements, but if you prefer feet and inches, then we have listed the nearest equivalent size to help you.
2ft6 Small Single Beds
Typically found where space is at a real premium, the small single size mattress is slim enough to fit into very tight spaces and still gives a sensible sleeping surface for one.
DImensions: 75cm x 190cm / 2’6″ x 6’3″
3ft6 Single Beds
This is the UK single mattress size, and the size people mean when they talk about a standard single mattress
90cm x 190cm / 3′ x 6’3″
4ft Small Double Beds
Narrower than a standard double, so-called ‘Small Double’ mattresses are ideal for occasional use (such as for guest bedrooms) – this provides just enough room for two.

4ft6 Double Beds
This is the UK double mattress size.

5ft King Size Beds
King size mattresses are wider and longer than standard double mattresses – and although they are only 6 inches wider, this can make a huge difference to how much space you have when sharing a bed.
Dimensions: 150cm x 200cm / 5′ x 6’6″
6ft Superking Beds
Superking mattresses are a whole foot wider than king size – and they provide a wonderfully large sleeping surface. Not everyone can fit a bed of this size into their bedroom – but if you can, it is worth it!

EUROPEAN SIZE GUIDE
Euro Single Beds
The same width as a standard UK single size, but slightly longer. If you bought a single bed from a European manufacturer like Ikea, you will probably need this size!
Dimensions: 90cm x 200cm / 3′ x 6’6″
Euro Double Beds
Slightly wider and slightly longer than a standard UK double mattress. If you bought a double bed from a European manufacturer like Ikea, you will probably need this size.
DImensions: 140cm x 200cm / 4’9″ x 6’6″
Euro King Beds
The same length as a standard UK king size, but slightly wider. If you bought a king size bed from a European manufacturer like Ikea, you will probably need this size.
